Music Choice of the Month 4/2019: Thornetta Davis
Thornetta Davis has a history of captivating audiences. Since 1987 the Detroit singer and songwriter has been gaining attention with her powerful vocals. Having opened for music icons such as Ray Charles, Gladys Knight, and Etta James, Davis’s performances are noted as both memorable and electrifying.
In 2018 Davis received six Detroit Music Awards and eight more in 2017 including Outstanding Record Producer, Outstanding Blues Recording, Outstanding Blues Vocalist, and Outstanding Live Performance.

Davis garnered international attention by winning first place in the 2017 International Songwriting Competition (ISC) for Best Blues Song -“I Believe (Everything Gonna Be Alright)”, and by also receiving the prestigious French 2018 La Academie du Jazz Award for Best Blues Album -“Honest Woman”.
In addition, she was awarded the “Living Lifetime Achievement Award” by the Detroit Blues Society and awarded a star on the Canada South Blues Museum Walk of Fame. In 2015 Davis was crowned “Detroit’s Queen of the Blues” in a ceremony by the Detroit Blues Society, with proclamations from the City of Detroit, County of Wayne and the State of Michigan.
She is currently nominated for Outstanding Live Performance for this years Detroit Music Awards and has also been named a 2019 Blues Music Award Nominee.
