Detroit Bracelet: Not Your Average Accessory Shop

by | May 1, 2019 | Detroit Designers

Custom leather wrist bands, woven fanny packs, and motivational gemstone bracelets are a few of the items offered by Detroit Bracelet. With their focus on making products that inspire personal growth, the company continues to prove that it is more than just another retail shop.

company history

Founded four years ago by Paul Rudy, Detroit Bracelet wants consumers to feel a sense of self-worth, purpose, and confidence. “Our goal is to help others feel special while making them look and feel great,” said Rudy. “Detroit Bracelet was founded partly because when I thought of the name there was currently no other. My father company, DeSuave, is for eyeglass cords and I did not want them under the same name. This also allowed me to create another area of revenue.”

Putting the ‘u’ in unique

The inspiration for Rudy’s products came via frequent travels to Guatemala for community work. Wanting to keep the weaving traditions of the Guatemalan people alive, Rudy began using fabric from their vibrant clothing in his designs. Nick Waters, Manager of Detroit Bracelet, shared his view on what makes the company stand out. “It has an old hippie vibe to it,” said Waters. “The products give off a vintage feel that have the look of time and effort put into them.”

on staying creative

Waters is currently handling all digital marketing for the company and assisting with the design of new items. He stated that reading and being active helps when he is suffering from creative block. “I’m very innovative and enjoy helping with the creative direction. When I hit a roadblock I practice mindfulness by reading about techniques that help sort my thoughts. I also try to do 7-10 workouts a week to help clear my head,” he said.

“If I could offer one piece of advice to other creatives, it would be to stay consistent. Take action everyday regardless of how you feel. The smallest action can mimic 1% growth. In a year’s time that will amount to 365% growth than before.”

Giving back to the community

Detroit Bracelet aims to do more than just sell accessories. Rudy explained that the company has plans to support various groups through its resources. “Through Detroit Bracelet purchases we want to give people an opportunity to shine. We will be looking to provide resources to indigenous pride groups, grassroots organizations, mental health groups, girls and boys empowerment groups, and after school reading programs,” he said.

“Down the road we will have a commission program for people in search of additional income that is primarily based off of their effort. We are devising a training program that will allow people to hit the ground running.”

Future Plans

When asked about the future of Detroit Bracelet, Rudy responded “in 10 years we would like to see Detroit Bracelet as the states largest powerhouse of handmade bracelet production with one of a kind designs and ethics. In a nut shell, when we can make others feel special, we make a difference.”

“We want to inspire people to continue to evolve,” said Waters. “Growing in yourself is easier than growing a business. If I can show people that this business can grow, there is no excuse.”
