Tribute Party Planned to Honor Legendary Songwriter Allee Willis

by | Jan 31, 2020 | Creative Destinations

Allee Willis was a multi-talented artist and native Detroiter recognized for her stellar songwriting abilities. Her music catalog includes the Friends theme song “I’ll Be There for You” performed by the Rembrandts, “September” by Earth, Wind and Fire, and “You’re the Best” theme song from the Karate Kid. Willis passed away on December 24, 2019, but her legacy is being kept alive the world over.

On February 9, 2020 international recording artist and performer Apropos, who was working on new music with Willis before her untimely passing, will partner with Empty Bowls Detroit to honor Willis with a special tribute party. The festivities will take place in Shed #5 of Eastern Market. For a $20 donation guests will enjoy a soup dinner, a live performance by Apropos, and also receive supplies to paint their very own bowl.

We had the pleasure of meeting Allee Willis back in 2018 when she stopped to chat with us at the Detroit Music Awards taking place inside the Fillmore. From the moment we greeted her until the moment she walked away, she never lost her bright smile.
