Art and Advocacy: 10 Examples That Raise Social Awareness
Art is a powerful tool that raises awareness around the ongoing social issues of our time. A single message can travel across the world and inspire millions in a day’s time. In response to the tragic deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and countless others, artists have used their art to protest against injustice and rally for positive, impactful change. Below are ten of my favorite examples from Instagram.
Raising awareness around social issues is a community effort. If you would like to join the fight for justice here are a few ways to get involved:
- Place a call to your local officials
- Make a donation to an organizations such as the NAACP, UNIA, or Equality Michigan
- Do not be silent. Share educational resources and send a message through your own art
- Join a peaceful protest
If you are not able to make it out to a protest, our friend Jennifer Hamra of Good Life Detroit wrote a great post that explains the different ways you can get involved with social justice. I highly recommend checking out the article for loads of great tips and resources.
